Warning: Spoilers ahead for “Another Simple Favor.”

Prime Video’s “Another Simple Favor” has no shortage of unexpected gasp-filled twists and turns.

Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick return as Emily and Stephanie, respectively, for the Paul Feig-directed sequel to “A Simple Favor.’

For those who don’t recall the major events of the 2018 film, it’s revealed that Emily, whose real name is Hope, killed her twin sister Faith as a way to fake her own death and claim millions in life insurance. At the time, it was assumed that they also had a triplet who died in childbirth.

At the end of the film, Emily goes to prison for killing her sister and attempting to frame her husband Sean (Henry Golding) in a murder-suicide. She also shot Sean after she found out that he had slept with Stephanie when they believed that Emily had died.

Set in stunning landscape of Capri, Italy, “Another Simple Favor” begins five years later after those events. Stephanie is now a true crime author and promoting her new book, “The Faceless Blonde,” chronicling her tumultuous and deadly time with Emily. During a book reading, a just-released-from-prison Emily shows up and asks her to be her maid of honor at her Italian wedding.

What comes next are whirlwind and jaw-dropping moments, as well as some fantastic fashion ensembles from Lively, which makes for a thrilling adventure.

“It’s just bigger. The twists are shocking, and I think it’s interesting to be in a second movie where you feel equally terrified,” Lively said in the press notes, with Kendrick adding, “The tone is so wild that you feel very untethered.”

During Emily and fiancé Dante’s (Michele Morrone) wedding festivities, her estranged mom Margaret McLanden (Elizabeth Perkins) and aunt Linda (Allison Janney) make a surprise appearance.

Linda was the one that helped deliver Margaret’s triplets. It was believed that the third baby died during the delivery and that Linda had the newborn cremated shortly after. However, it turns out that Linda kept the third daughter, Charity, and raised her as her own.

Viewers later find out that Linda is also a con artist who is under investigation by the FBI, with Charity helping her with their schemes.

Once it’s confirmed that Charity is still alive — though clearly unhinged — viewers discover that she is the one that killed Sean in the shower.

Charity then kills Dante during his wedding reception. Viewers and Stephanie only see him arguing with someone before he is shot and killed when falling into a shed full of exploding fireworks.

Charity then tries to pin his death on Stephanie, which results in Stephanie being arrested and locked in her room. At one point, she escapes and discovers aunt Linda’s secret about kidnapping Charity after she was born.

She tries to meet up with not-so-undercover FBI Agent Irene Walker (Taylor Ortega), but the agent is soon killed by Charity. Stephanie, who becomes the fall guy for the recent killings, is drugged by Dante’s mother Portia’s (Elena Sofia Ricci) mob men after Walker’s murder and is taken to a secret location.

When Stephanie wakes up, Portia believes she killed her son and gives her truth serum.

Drugged up, Stephanie admits to a number of other crimes she believes she’s made but tells her she didn’t kill Dante. Still upset, Portia orders her men to still kill Stephanie. However, Emily rescues Stephanie in the nick of time.

After they escape the mob men, they see a video of Charity pretending to be Emily as she appears to hold her son Nick hostage. Emily tells Stephanie all about how Charity drugged her, took advantage of her (in an intimate way) and told her they belonged together.

Stephanie, who Emily used to call “brother f—–,” jokes that Charity is now a “sister f—–” after Emily’s intimate encounter with her sister.

Emily also reveals that Dante was gay and in love with family rival Matteo Bartolo (Lorenzo de Moor). Emily had met Dante in her early twenties and knew of his secret since then. The couple was still together and her plan was to marry Dante so they could keep their cover.

Charity kills aunt Linda and goes to prison, pretending to be Emily

When Stephanie and Emily find Charity, she is with aunt Linda who has a gun to Nick’s head. Linda knew Dante’s secret and was going to use it to blackmail his family for millions of dollars.

Now that he’s dead, Linda plans on killing Emily and having Charity take her place. However, Charity, who is enamored with Emily, agrees to it as long as, “Hope doesn’t die,” she says, using her sister’s real name.

When Linda refuses, Charity ends up pushing Linda off the cliff and killing her. Charity now wants to kill Stephanie, but Emily convinces her not to.

Flash forward, Charity, now pretending to be Emily, goes to prison while the real Emily stays behind in Italy. Stephanie has a new book out and is asked to raise Nick.

The final moments feature Emily meeting up with Dante’s mother. Since she’s now a part of the family, Portia is seen asking her for a simple favor.

What did ‘Another Simple Favor’ director Paul Feig say about the surprise ending?

Director Paul Feig opened up about the wild and shocking ending, telling Entertainment Weekly that the final project deviated from the sequel’s original script which had Emily’s fiancé Dante as “more of a bad guy.”

“It turned out that he was a bad guy and he staged his death, and they had to go on the run because Emily was like, ‘They’re going to kill me. He set me up to look like I killed him,” Feig explained.

While the original idea was “more of a caper” with Emily undercover and dressing like a nun and a “normal person,” Feig called the new version more of a mystery.

“Whenever there’s a mystery in real life, everybody jumps to their conclusion,” he told the outlet. “I’ve always thought, ‘God, if people had the ability to arrest people, there’d be a lot of people getting falsely accused and arrested.’ Everybody thinks they know people’s motives.”

The director also commented on Emily’s altruistic decision about the custody of her son Nicky after the fallout from her crimes and her sister’s recent murders.

“Emily knows that she’s a well-meaning mother, but she’s probably not the best example to bring up a child,” Feig said. “I respect that she has the smarts to do that now that Sean is gone. She does the selfless thing, if you will.”

Will there be a ‘A Simple Favor 3’?

While director Paul Feig has yet to confirm another sequel to “A Simple Favor,” the “Bridesmaids” director said “Another Simple Favor” does leave the door open for a continuation of the story.

“Charity is a loose cannon,” Feig told EW. “So there are lots of places for her to go. Let’s just say, I hope to see Charity again.”

With the film having an open ending, in which viewers aren’t privy to the “simple favor” that Dante’s mother, Portia, asks of Emily, Feig explained to EW that the ideas for a follow up are “all sitting right there to be picked off the tree.”

“Look, as much as I don’t like to do sequels and have avoided them, I have no rule against three-quels,” he said. “There’s much more fun to be had with these characters and to see what they can get into and how they can get out of it.”

So what exactly is that “simple favor” that Emily has been tasked with?

Feig teased “it’s something that probably nobody else in the family would want to do.”

“Another Simple Favor” is now available to stream on Prime Video.
