Timothée Chalamet reveals what his mom said to him after historic SAG win
Timothée Chalamet has revealed what his mom said to him following his historic win at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The ceremony, which took place on Sunday in Los Angeles, honors outstanding performances in TV and film and is voted on by more than 130,000 SAG-AFTRA members. According to the SAG Awards website, the event is “beloved for its style, simplicity, and genuine warmth” and “has become an industry favorite and one of awards season’s most prized honors since its debut in 1995.”
Chalamet won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. During an interview with Extra, the New York native briefly paused his post-victory chat with host Melvin Robert to say: “I think my mom’s doing an interview right now.”
The actor’s mother, Nicole Flender, accompanied him to the awards show.
“What did your mom say to you when they called your name—when you hugged her?” Robert asked, to which Chalamet replied, “She said um, she said, ‘Don’t forget to fold your laundry.’ And I was like, ‘Really? This moment? Really this moment? I just won this award and I’m 29 years old and you’re chastising me still?'”

“Leave it to your mom to remind you what’s real, right?” Robert asked, before Chalamet gave his mom a shoutout.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. She might have won me this because she—you know, I grew up in an actor’s building in New York, so I know she really pushed everyone she knew to hit that vote button,” he said.
Newsweek reached out to Chalamet and Dylan’s representatives via email for comment on Monday.
Chalamet made history as the youngest winner of the award. In the same conversation with Robert, the Wonka star—who is also nominated for best actor at this year’s Oscars—said he had only just heard the news.
“That’s amazing. I’m so f***ing grateful, man. I’m so grateful,” he said. “I was not expecting this. I would’ve had a more tailored message. This is just raw.”
During his acceptance speech, Chalamet told viewers: “I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me. But the truth is, this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero. It was the honor of a lifetime playing him.”
He added that he wants “to be one of the greats” and named actors Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis, as well as sports stars Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, as his inspiration.
“This doesn’t signify that,” Chalamet concluded, “but it’s a little more fuel, a little more ammo to keep going.”
Hours after the awards ceremony, Chalamet took to his Instagram to celebrate his win alongside a slew of photos from the night.
“YEOOOOOOO I WON I CANT BELIEVE IT !!!!!!!” he said. “THANK YOU TO MY PEERS FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART !!!!!!! ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD !!! GUNNA CELEBRATE TONIGHT THANK U THANK U THANK U !!!!!!!”
