Dick Vitale is anxiously anticipating an appointment that will determine if he’s free from cancer.

“I’m constantly thinking about Dec. 12 when I have a major scan to determine if I’m cancer free after my recent 30 radiation treatments. 🙏🙏🙏,” the longtime sports announcer, 85, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Dec. 4.

“If I am, it would be my NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!” he added.

In a Dec. 5 update, Vitale said, “I feel terrific but have lots of anxiety about the exam. Cancer patients I’m sure know that feeling.”

The sports announcer told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, via The Spun, that he had high hopes for the scan.

“Obviously, I would love to be able to sit at courtside and do what I love: talk about what is happening in college basketball,” Vitale said. “At this moment, I am simply focusing on what I am currently dealing with and that is to follow the advice of my medical team and become cancer-free at the conclusion of my six weeks of radiation treatments.”

In June, Vitale revealed through a post on Instagram that he had to undergo a biopsy after a new cancer was found in one of his lymph nodes.

“Certainly not the news I wanted but I plan to do whatever I can control to win this new battle. 🙏🙏🙏,” he wrote in his caption.

Vitale added, “Thanks so much to those that have been in my corner. Means a great deal to me.”

Back in 2023, Vitale received radiation treatment for vocal cord cancer following his initial diagnosis in July of that year.

Vitale was previously diagnosed with lymphoma in October 2021 and melanoma.  He announced that he was in remission from the cancers in August 2022.
