Bookies’ gloomy verdict on Carlisle United’s relegation prospects

Bookmakers have all but written off Carlisle United’s survival chances – after slashing their relegation odds further.
League Two’s bottom club are now as short as 1/4 to go down to the National League.
Those odds are now offered by BetFred in light of United’s current predicament at the foot of the EFL.
Carlisle are six points from safety with 11 games to go, following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Harrogate Town.
Despite having 33 points still to play for, and a game in hand on the two sides above them, United’s prospects of survival are at their slimmest yet according to the bookies.
The most generous price for United to go down is now 4/9, a price offered by SkyBet and BetVictor.
Others paint a gloomy picture, with odds of 4/11 offered for Carlisle’s relegation by Bet365, William Hill, BetFair and BoyleSports.
United, despite their lowly predicament, are still only second favourites for the drop, with second-bottom Morecambe remaining marginally the top pick of many bookies to go down.
The Shrimps, who are four points from safety, are 1/5 with Bet365 and BoyleSports, and 2/7 with SkyBet.
Third-bottom Tranmere, who are four points above the drop zone and six above Carlisle, are 11/8 for the drop with Bet365, Evens with SkyBet and 5/4 with BetFred.
